Härmälänranta is being created in an old industrial area on the shore of Lake Pyhäjärvi in Tampere. The distance to the city centre is 5 km. The area is on its way to becoming a welcoming and vibrant new district for living and working with a variety of services and free-time activities available. The old factory buildings in the area have been utilised as well as possible, and provide the district with a clear identity. The proximity of the lake with its parks and the harbour make the area even more attractive. Härmälänranta will be an area where urban spaces are clearly demarcated, but varying. At the block level, the area will be made more vibrant by varying the look and volume of the buildings.
The project began as a collaboration between Skanska and Tengbom Arkitekter, an architecture firm from Stockholm, during which the master plan for the area was envisioned. We joined the project for the actual town planning process. The town planning was carried out in collaboration with the town planning of the City of Tampere. At the town planning stage, block-level sketch planning and brainstorming were our responsibility. The construction of the area has been scheduled to take place between the years 2014 and 2024. The work has continued with the principal and architectural design of the first block to be constructed.
