Pirkkala upper secondary school

We were commissioned to devise reference plans for the new upper secondary school in Pirkkala by the municipality of Pirkkala. The starting point for the project was the new curriculum, which includes a shift towards a more open teaching environment in upper secondary education, as well. We were requested to make the teaching premises flexible and innovative. The central large entrance hall and the teaching staircase were designed so that they can be used flexibly for teaching, spending time, and holding events. The urban location of the building, right next to the municipal centre, posed its own challenges for designing the appearance and functionalities of the building. The upper secondary school premises were designed for 250 pupils. Petri Tavilampi acted as the main designer.
